What you'll learn in this floral design class:

Life is stressful and at times chaotic. Practicing Ikebana involves calming and focusing one’s mind. It is learning and developing a new approach to the beauty found in nature all around us.

Students gain two sets of benefits:

  1. The skill/process of arranging flowers that is relaxing
  2. Students will bring home a fresh flower arrangement after every class.

Course Objective: This course introduces students to the art form and discipline of Japanese Ikebana (flower arrangements.) The simplicity of lines, appreciation of nature, and the rich history of this tradition will be covered.

Students will exit this course, a series of six classes, with an understanding of the essential skill to begin this journey of harmony, balance, and appreciation of nature in Ikebana.

The following are the three learning objectives:

  1. Know the history of Japanese Ikebana
  2. Demonstrate the basic skill of the introductory forms
  3. Understand the process of Ikebana as a way in appreciation of nature

Students will need to bring the following items to class:

  1. 10” flat container (vase, $10)
  2. 3” x 4” kenzan (from Japan, $35)
  3. Garden cutter (from Japan, $30)

These may be purchased from the instructor on the first day of class or you may bring your own.
