Huriyyah Muhammad

Huriyyah Muhammad is a writer, director and producer whose passion lies at the intersection of telling great stories and helping others to do the same. As an independent feature film producer, she has led the production of multiple independent feature films from development to market, and most recently completed filming projects in Nairobi, Kenya and Madhya Pradesh, India. Her documentary, Bulbul: Song of the Nightingale is currently in post-production, while Soko Sonko, Swahili for Market King, continues to win awards. Most recently, she is poised to start production on season two of the critically acclaimed supernatural web series drama, Keloid.

As an activist and advocate for under-represented voices in television and film, Huriyyah is the founder of the Black TV & Film Collective, a 501c3 arts organization with over 1200 members, artists of color and allies, focused on increasing inclusion and representation in television and film. Under her leadership, the organization offers an array of professional development classes and workshops, networking opportunities and production support for artists seeking to make their work.

Huriyyah holds an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science from Spelman College.
