What you'll learn in this health class:
The concept of the “five elements” (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) as energetic archetypes whose cycles affect the flow of energy in our bodies is central to ancient Chinese medicine and to its qigong health exercises. In this class, we’ll learn movements and breath control exercises to help unblock the acupuncture meridians and bring qi (energy) to the organs associated with each element, thereby helping us to reach a state of balance and harmony, physically, emotionally and spiritually. The lung exercise helps ward off colds and lifts one’s spirit; the stomach exercise can assist with digestive issues and relieve anxiety; the liver exercise can help alleviate irritability and pain; etc.
This is an easy-to-learn practice that will bring healing and peace into your daily life.

This was a free introductory class to Wu Xing (Five Elements). The instructor, William Kaplanidis, told many personal stories of how he got involved with Wu Xing. He also tried to teach us some Chinese characters. At the end of this free intro class he taught us some movements and breathing exercises. If you are interested in taking the five session class, it is $100 for members of the New York Open Center and $135 for nonmembers.
