What you'll learn in this beginner sewing class:

For total beginners–if you've been wanting to learn to sew or you haven’t touched a machine in years, this is the class for you. In just one evening we’ll walk you through the basics; you’ll leave class with a finished elastic-waisted skirt.

Here’s what we’ll cover:
  • Basic intro to a sewing machine, including how to sew a straight seam
  • How to measure the body properly for garment fitting
  • How to cut fabric accurately
  • Pinning and sewing seams
  • Making an elastic waistband and hem

Q: Can I make the skirt any length I want?
A: Yes!

Q: Are materials provided and included in cost of the class?
A: No. Fabric will be available for purchase in our retail shop. You will select your choice of fabric.

If you prefer to bring your own fabric, you’ll need two yards of a medium-weight woven. Cotton or cotton blends are recommended.

All tools needed to complete this class will be provided and sewing machines will be available courtesy of BERNINA of America.

Refund Policy

Note: This provider has a temporary cancellation policy for COVID-19 related cancellations which is as follows:

Due to the current situation with Covid-19, we have relaxed our cancelation policy a bit until further notice. We still cannot provide refunds for class cancelations, but for the time being, we are not requiring 48 hours notice to receive a class credit. Students can reach out to reschedule/ receive a credit at any point before the workshop takes place.

Original cancellation policy (non-COVID-19):

We do not issue refunds on workshop registrations.

If you register for a workshop and later become unable to attend, we will gladly offer a school credit if you notify us at least 48 hours before the workshop. We are unable to offer credits of any kind, or honor reschedule requests, with less than 48 hours advance notice.

About Our Policy

Our workshops require a great deal of pre-planning, including ordering supplies and tools, booking staff, and making commitments to pay our instructors -- all based on the number of students who register. When students ask to cancel or reschedule at the last minute, we lose money. As a small business, we are unable to absorb these costs and still keep our class prices low.

In fairness to all of our customers we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend!

Thank you for understanding!

This hands-on class had a good pace and the instructor was attentive, and encouraged all her students. I plan to take another class with her in the future. Overall, I would recommend this class.

Great class for anyone new to sewing. The instructor even provided 1-on-1 advanced techniques for students with more experience.
