Description
What you'll learn in this oil painting class:
Discover the creative and technical advantages of oil painting. This course is for beginners who have never painted in oil paint, students who have basic knowledge of oil paint, and for students who would like to better hone their painting skills. From setting up your pallet, to a variety of traditional techniques that will give one a strong foundation, students will start with a still life and then move on to landscape. Instructor also encourages personal artistic style and creative growth through traditional techniques used by the masters. Continuing students, who have previously taken this course, can participate in still life painting or bring in paintings from the previous course to finish or start a new project.
Suggested Materials
Canvas: 24”x 18”
Paints: Required Colors in 37ml tubes
• Cadmium Red Medium Hue - can be replaced with Permanent Red Alizarin Crimson
• Cadmium Yellow Medium - can be replaced with Hansa yellow medium
• Cadmium Yellow light - can be replaced with Lemon yellow
• Phthalo Blue
• French Ultramarine blue
• Sap Green
• Viridian Green - sometimes just called Viridian
• Burnt Umber
• Yellow ochre
• Titanium White (will need larger tube. 150 ml tube)
Paint colors I recommend but are not necessary:
• Indian Yellow (highly recommend)
• Quinacridone Red (highly recommend)
• Quinacridone Rose
• Cerulean blue (good for painting water)
• Mediterranean Blue (good for painting water)
• Cobalt Blue (good for painting water, and sky)
• Burnt sienna (highly recommend)
• Raw sienna
• Raw Umber (highly recommend)
Brushes: Brushes are best picked out in person so you can see and feel what you like.
Natural Bristle oil paint Brushes
• #6 round
• #8 Flat
• #2 Filbert
• #1 Bright
• Synthetic Sable oil paint Brushes:
• # 6 Round
• #4 Flat
• #2 Bright
• #2/0 Round
Other Supplies:
A paint box or tool box
• Odorless Turpenoid (1 pint or bigger)
• Linseed oil (small amount)
• 2 closable containers for your turpenoid and linseed oil. You can use cleaned out food jars or
purchase containers at the art store that clip onto your palette.
• Paper palette
• Palette knife
• Cotton rags and or paper towels
To clean your brushes you will need one of these cleaners:
• Brush cleaner soap from the art store
• Dawn dish soap
• Murphy's oil soap (my favorite)

Refund Policy
•WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS – Withdrawals and refunds are issued according to the schedule below. Students must complete a WITHDRAWAL FORM to request a refund or credit. Requests by telephone are not accepted. The withdrawal fee is $20. ***Workshops are non-refundable and date/time specific. Workshops cannot be rescheduled.
Credit card payment refunds are credited back to the original credit card used at the time of payment. All other forms of payment will be credited by check and mailed to the name and address on the Withdrawal Form. Refunds will be processed within six weeks of receipt of form.
The Art School reserves the right to require the withdrawal of any student whose conduct is deemed detrimental to the course.
•REFUND DEADLINES
2 business days before the 1st Class: 100% refund (less $20)
2 business days before the 2nd Class: 75% refund (less $20)
No refunds will be issued after the second class.
Please allow six weeks to process refunds. After the first class, the material fee and registration fee will not be refunded. In case of a Medically Certified illness, a refund will be issued after receipt of physician’s documentation. The value of the refund will be for the balance of the remaining class sessions.
•COURSE CANCELLATIONS – If a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, registrants will be notified by email or phone within 24 – 48 hours before the first class. Registrants will be given the opportunity to transfer to another class or issued a refund. Refunds will include the total cost of the course fee, including registration and materials fees (if applicable).
