Teaches at WriteSpace Houston
An English teacher and writing instructor for over 20 years, Joy Preble earned her degree in English and linguistics from Northwestern University. Joy is a member of AWP, SCBWI and RWA, and speaks and presents widely to both teens and adults on writing, books, and literacy, including teaching at Writespace Houston. Her first series, Dreaming Anastasia (Sourcebooks) combines paranormal romance with Russian folklore and historical fiction. The first book in the series, Dreaming Anastasia, was nominated for a Cybil Award in the Teen Sc-Fi/Fantasy Category in 2009.
It was named ABC Best Book for Children, Teen Category in 2009, and was featured in Justine Magazine. Her newest series, The Sweet Dead Life (Soho Press) was hailed by Kirkus Review with “Hallelujah! A paranormal tale of angels that’s not a romance, making it a novel that breaks the mold.” Booklist observed, “…the unifying thread is Jenna’s clever, bitter, self-aware, and loving voice… Preble’s lively descriptions and unusually well-drawn, caring sibling relationship (a topic not usually explored in teen fiction) are especially noteworthy.” Its sequel, The A Word, is out now. Her first contemporary mystery romance, Finding Paris, from Balzer and Bray/Harper Collins, just hit the shelves April 21st, 2015. Joy currently lives with her family in Houston where she writes, teaches, and gets paid for making up stuff.
