What you'll learn in this jewelry class:

Take your jewelry to the next level with advanced fabrication and more stone setting techniques.

Focusing on precision stone setting the Winter 2019 session of Metals III is led by Daniel Valencia and will involve some very exciting projects including scoop and split, and thread setting , flush setting of faceted stones. These techniques will be demonstrated and practiced extensively by each student starting with the first class.

The first project will be a ring where students carve out (scoop) setting for their stones, creating prongs which are then split, the stones are then set, level and straight. Then using the same techniques we will create half hoop earrings with even a tighter layout.

Flush setting will also be covered in detail. Whether you are a jeweler looking to increase your spectrum of work or are a bench jeweler trying to find a job in the industry, this class will provide you the knowledge and practice to help you toward your goals.

This is a (8) week, 24 hour class. The format of this class will be different from the other offerings at Jewelryclassdc in that there will be more focus on process and technique.

While you will be able to embellish your pieces, the focus of this session will always be process!!! Instructor Daniel Valencia will be sharing his hard won experience as he guides you through these challenging techniques. Class size is always 12 students or fewer.

Prerequisites: Metal I and Metal II or comparable experience.
