Rodney Pond

Teaches at UW Botanic Gardens

Rodney Pond was raised on the Gulf Coast of Florida and earned his BS in Zoology from the University of Florida in 1991. Over the past 25 years Rodney’s lived in the Puget Sound region he’s earned a MS in Forest Resources from the University of Washington (2005) and worked in just about every conceivable area of the habitat restoration and natural resource management field; restoration ecologist, research scientist, educator, community organizer, volunteer coordinator, field crew, project manager, native plant nursery manager, sustainable gardener, college instructor in a prison, and environmental compliance specialist - to name a few. His passion is for building a restorative culture for the mutual benefit of people and ecosystems through education, partnerships, projects, and celebration. He is currently Executive Director for Sound Salmon Solutions, one of the 14 Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups in Washington State – grassroots nonprofits focused on realizing salmon recovery through engaging communities in habitat restoration, education, and stewardship. Rodney is also a long time instructor at Edmonds Community College teaching introduction to ecological restoration and the ecological restoration practicum.
