What you'll learn in this watercolor class:

If you love color and like experimenting with watercolor, this is the workshop for you. Start your painting by creating a ground through splashing, dripping and manipulating the paint. Then paint your own subject matter on top using overlapping images and transparencies that interact with and highlight your ground. You will discover intriguing effects and a new way of looking at your subject matter.  Should feel comfortable using watercolor paints.

What to Bring:

  • Watercolor paper for your painting – Maximize size 22 x 30 (full sheet) and minimum size 11.5-x 15 (half sheet).  I strongly recommend getting paper that is 260 or 300 lb.  because it can best handle the amount of water we will be using.  However, I realize this paper is more expensive, so 140 lb. paper can be used but the paper may not hold up as well.
  • Watercolor paints of your choosing (any brand ok) along with the tubes of paint for the 2-3 colors you want to use in your background.  You must bring the actual tubes of paint for the colors you want to use in your background.
  • Watercolor brushes of assorted sizes of your choosing, including at least 1 flat and 1 round
  • Five or more watercolor pencils (i.e. water-soluble colored pencils), your choice of colors (any brand ok).
  • Masking or artist tape

Note: We will have boards that you can tape your paper to; however, if you have your own, feel free to bring your paper already taped to a board.
