What you'll learn in this figure drawing class:

Learn to draw the figure, facial expressions, and portraits. We will focus on proportion and anatomy, line quality, value and composition strategies to improve your technical skills. 

Explore different methods and approaches while drawing from reference, observation and a live model. 

Class 1: The Head - Proportions & Structure

Class 2: The Figure - Proportions and Introduction to Drawing from Life (with model)

Class 3: Portraits and Individual Facial Features

Class 4: Movement and Line Quality (with model)

Class 5: Hands & Feet (with model)

Class 6: Expressive/Experimental Figures (with model)

Live Model Fee ($60): Model Fee Covers class time with four models in-person at RAC

What To Bring 

  • Recommended Materials: 
  • Sketchbook if you use one 
  • Newsprint 
  • Nice drawing paper for longer poses 
  • Pencils of varied hardness HB, 2B, 6B 
  • Vine Charcoal 
  • 6B graphite crayon
  • Kneaded eraser 
  • Optional: Toned paper
  • Optional: White charcoal pencil

Refund Policy

When class/workshop enrollment is below the minimum three days prior to the first day of class, the class may be cancelled. If there is a cancellation, we will contact registered students at least 2 days before the start of the class/workshop by email or by phone.

We will offer students the option to transfer into another class or receive a full refund for the amount paid.

Classes are not refunded due to failure to attend class, planned absences, minor illnesses, or vacations.

If you drop a class:

  • If you drop a class at least 8 business days before it starts, you will receive a 100% refund minus a $20 administrative fee.
  • If you drop a class between 7 to 2 business days before it starts, there are no refunds. At this point students may receive a class credit if the school is able to replace your seat with another student before the start of class. If this is not possible, crediting will not be offered.
  • If you drop a class on or after the class start date, no refunds or credits are possible.

Transfers:

  • If you transfer to from one class to another class of equal value or more, there is no administrative fee.
  • Otherwise an admin fee will be charged for transfers.
