BJ Fredricks has been an active urban farmer since 1999 and she began keeping bees in 2009. Her interest in sustainability can be traced back to growing up on Long Island where her parents began organic gardening in the 1960's, well ahead of the times. Recently one of her interests has been in the area of apitherapy, which includes products of the hive and their medicinal applications. The Back Forty (feet) of her Brooklyn garden is home to two bee hives, six chickens, a pond, and raised beds which yield produce for three seasons of the year.
