Chikae Ishikawa

Chikae Ishikawa has performed as a singer, actress and dancer in major venues including Broadway, the Metropolitan Opera House, Madison Square Garden, the Kennedy Center and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. She has appeared in shows such as A Chorus Line (Dir. Michael Bennett), Nine (Dir. Tommy Tune), and Stop the World- I Want To Get Off (Dir. Anthony Newley). She has also performed as a solo vocalist in various jazz clubs in NY and Japan, toured Italy with a gospel group, and performed with the Meredith Monk Vocal Ensemble. Chikae is a certified Dalcroze music teacher and is a music faculty member of the Montclair State University Preparatory Center, the Thurnauer School of Music at JCC in Tenaflly, NJ, and the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains, NY where she teaches voice/choir and Dalcroze music classes. She has also taught music classes at the Special Music School, the Lucy Moses School of Music and Dance in Manhattan, as well as many public schools in NYC as a teaching artist. Chikae majored in Theatre Arts at Santa Monica College, CA, and holds a Dalcroze certificate from NY Dalcroze School, and an Arts in Education Certificate from the Marymount Manhattan College. She studied music at the Mannes School of Music, Hoff-Barthelson School of Music in NY and the Longy School of Music in Cambrige, MA. Chikae has also studied piano, composition and theory privately with W. A. Mathiu, and jazz piano, vocal and improvisation with legendary jazz pianist, Dr. Barry Harris.
