What you'll learn in this paramedic training:

EMTs face the unknown every day, dealing with 911 calls that involve a wide range of emergencies.  In the EMT-Original program, you will learn the fundamental skills to assess a patient’s condition, apply the proper procedure for emergency care, and, when necessary, transport the patient to a medical facility. Learn these life-saving techniques and join the dedicated personnel on the frontlines to keep New Yorkers safe.

As we continue to grapple with the effects of COVID-19, the need for frontline workers such as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)  has never been greater. Deemed an essential service by the state, we have adapted our EMT training to a hybrid format working in collaboration with Rescue Training International.  This will ensure the safety of our students and instructors as we minimize contact through online delivery of the theoretical component. Students will then complete the practical skills in-person, with no more than 6 people in a classroom to be in compliance with social distancing rules. Students will utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for each practical skills session.

Once registered, students will be informed of textbook pick-up location prior to the start of class, or mail delivery of the textbook (if possible with sufficient lead time).

Tuition includes textbook, equipment package and polo shirt.

Prerequisites: At minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent; be 18 years or older. (Driver's license is highly recommended, but not necessary to enroll in the program.)

* The EMT program is a NY State certification, and not a credit-bearing course therefore financial aid will not cover the cost of tuition.

Class will meet online Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm for lectures.
Starting in March 25 through April students will meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for hands on skills.

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Question from Allison
Hi, I have no desire to become an EMT or becoming certified, as I have a career I enjoy. I would like to take the course to learn for my own knowledge. I work full time and would very likely miss several classes, would that be a problem? I am hoping with the workbook and the classes I do attend I would get my money and times worth and it would not be an issue for the teacher or my classmates.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
The school welcomes everyone and it's absolutely fine if you will join this class. However, you'd still have to pay for the materials, enrollment, etc, just like any other students in this class. Thank you.
Question from Anonymous

Question from anonymous
Will this class accept the New York State voucher payment from a volunteer ambulance company?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! The volunteer ambulance company will have to complete the form on behalf of the student as they will get the direct reimbursement. The student will still have to pay the full tuition to the school, and only when they successfully complete the course will the voucher be reimbursed back to the company. It is best worked out between the volunteer and their sponsoring agency, as the voucher only covers up to $700, so the balance will be an out-of-pocket expense.
Question from anonymous
When will be the last day to register?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi! We can still accept booking/enrollment a day before the class starts, but of course, it will be better if you book/enroll earlier. Hope this helps!
Question from Anonymous
Will I be certified by the end of this program to work for any private or public EMT company ?
Answer from Kristle C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Once the student passes the course, they are certified to work anywhere in NY state, both private and public companies.
Question from Samuel J.
Not enough information about the training or what I would learn in this class. Will I actually, get hands-on experience with an affiliate ambulance facility/hospital?
Answer from Jenn C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi! Students will learn what New York State has mandated for them to be trained as an EMT. There is a practical component to the class, and hands-on in that they will practice on mannequins the various life-saving techniques. There is a small component where they will get to visit an ambulance company/hospital affiliate to see what it is like to work in the ambulance. If you have any further questions, let us know!

It is an accelerated EMT training, and is best suited for students on a summer break and people with a part time job at most. This should have been explained by the instructor at the beginning of the course. If you have a full time job, I would not recommend it.
