Expensive for what the course teaches. Emphasis was on completing weekly homework and critiques, instead of actually teaching the hows and whys of interior design. Ideal class if you really don't know anything about interior design/decoration.

A good feel for an intro class, but be prepared for homework. Emphasis was on completing weekly projects and critiques, instead of actual teaching the hows and whys of interior design. Ideal class if interested in a career change.

Good overview of basic ID skills but too ambitious for a 6 week course. Wish there was more teaching/learning during class time, as much of the time was used for student presentations. Most of the course content was self-led with online modules. Class should likely be 3 hours instead of 2, or 8 weeks instead of 6. Was still fun, nonetheless

LOVED this course. I just wanted to dip my toe in Interior Design and this was the perfect one to do it. We mostly listened to Don Kossar's design 101 and principles/theory of Interior Design while taking notes, with two projects throughout - we each re-designed a space with accurate measurements and had to plan furniture layouts, and then worked on design boards for the final project. Don makes it clear from the beginning that you can do "as much or as little" of the project as you want, and that the key thing is to have fun doing it. Don is also a hilarious old school New Yorker - in six weeks, he gives a delightful "quick version" overview of the world of Interior Design, and makes an otherwise normal subject pretty amusing and fun with his various stories and examples from his years in the field. It was a wonderful summer brain break with zero stress. Take the class with Don!

Question from Paola G.
Hello! I am very interested in this class but I have some questions. I have basic knowledge of architecture but never work in that field, I am interested in starting a career in ID, but I have not been in a classroom in a long time. I would like to know if this class is the right one for me. Also, once the course is done are we going to get any kind of document or something that prove that we had taken the class ?? Thank you!
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Paola! The Introduction class will require 2 hours of work per week. It's meant to be a fun introduction to some of the basic skills and ideas. It is not for academic credit, so it's pretty low-pressure, by design. The topics include furniture layouts, using a scale ruler and the basics of hand drafting, creating a color scheme, working with textiles, and putting together a basic design presentation.
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
With only 12 students in the class, there is a lot of time to interact with the teacher and other students, and ask questions. You may request a certificate from the Office of the Registrar upon successful completion of the course.
