In-Person Drumming Classes & Schools in NYC 

Located in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, City Music Schools, previously known as the New York Schools of Music, was established by Arthur Cremin in 1921. Cremin's goal was to provide high-quality music education to all individuals. City Music Schools continues to carry out this mission by offering affordable music classes for a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, bass, violin, viola, mandolin, drums, voice, banjo, harp, sax, trumpet, flute, trombone, and clarinet. Additionally, the school offers music practice rooms for its students.

Drum Lessons (Private) at City Music Schools is a one-hour session with a drumming instructor. Scheduling for private lessons is flexible and dependent on the instructor's availability. This type of class provides an opportunity for students to learn one-on-one with an expert drummer. Students can choose a time that works best for them and schedule it with their instructor. If the instructor is unavailable at the time originally booked, CourseHorse and the class provider will assist in rescheduling a class at a time convenient for both parties.

Conor Hall Drums is owned by Conor Hall, a music teacher and freelance musician based in Astoria, Queens. Drum Lessons/Private 1 Hour - All Levels at Conor Hall Drums is an expert drum lesson for all levels of students. In the beginning-level lessons, students will be introduced to the standard five-piece drum set and learn the names of each piece. As a beginner, you’ll explore various techniques, notation, rudiments, counting, backbeats, and fills. Practice tips and daily exercises will be given to help you improve at home. Intermediate students will focus on developing independence, increasing rhythmic vocabulary, playing along to tracks, experimenting with various grooves and styles, and improving timekeeping. Advanced students will receive instruction on odd time signatures, displacement, metric modulation, polyrhythms, soloing and improvisation, sight reading, and subdivision.

4-Lesson Private Drum: In-Person at Conor Hall Drumsis a four-session class for all experience levels. In this class, beginners will learn the basics of drumming and get familiar with the standard drum set. Intermediate students will develop independence, practice reading, play along to tracks, experiment with different styles, and work on keeping time. Advanced students will receive instruction on complex techniques like odd time signatures, metric modulation, and soloing/improvisation. Daily exercises and practice tips will be provided for all students.

Craig and David Howe, a father and son team, operate the Williamsburg School of Music in Brooklyn, New York. Craig is a professional musician and educator who resides in Williamsburg, while David is a former jazz player residing in Chelsea. They are not a chain or a franchise, but rather music enthusiasts with a shared mission to impart their knowledge through classes that enrich their community.

Adult Beginner Drums at Williamsburg School of Music teaches the fundamentals of rhythm and playing a rock drum kit. In this entry-level course, students will receive expert instruction from a percussion master, learn a variety of drumming styles and beats, and prepare themselves for either immediate jamming or more advanced study. No previous experience is necessary, and reading sheet music is not required. All materials, including drumsticks, will be provided in class. While practice pads for home use will be available for purchase, they are optional. At the end of the class, all students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills.
