MAKE IT! Studio is a hands-on sewing and craft studio with a maximum of 8 students at a time. For Summer Camp we will be turning the lovely Old Stone House of Park Slope into an amazing Sewing and Crafts Studio for 4 weeks.
We chose this location because it is a charming place with lots of windows and outdoor access for the kids to stay safe while they crafting and sewing. It will be held daily from 9 am to 3 p.m. with a late pick up option to 5pm
Our camp schedule is based on week-long themes all summer. This week’s theme will be D.I.Y ROOM DÉCOR, where your children will make adorable items to decorate and organize their room. Their own way! They will learn fun techniques such as batik printing to design and make their own fabric photo collage, sashiko embroidery to make a pillow, pottery and so much more! This week they will use a sewing machine for a couple of projects but there will also be lots of crafts that do not require the machine.
Our founder Lara’s teaching method is to encourage individual thinking and creativity by letting our students have the freedom to create what they imagine. By offering principles and design guidance to guide this creativity the children will be in a formal yet playful environment that will both teach and entertain.
For our repeating students we make sure they continue to be challenged and that they have new projects to entertain them. We also make sure not to repeat projects throughout the summer, this way your child is welcome to sign up for multiple weeks.
In the event a student must cancel a class registration, CourseHorse must be notified in writing via email at [email protected] for the student to be eligible for a refund of class fees.
Refunds are made in the form of the original payment.
Paid classes are redeemable only for the scheduled session(s) of the class for which you are registered and are not transferable.
Students who fail to show up for a class forfeit any right to a refund or exchange. There are no make-ups for missed classes. This policy is to ensure that the instructors are compensated for their time and other students waiting for spots in full classes are not missing class opportunities due to late cancellations or no shows.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
Students who have taken classes at Make It Camp: DIY Room Decor have had positive experiences and have learned valuable skills. The instructor, Lara Kazan, has a background in fashion design and does an excellent job of teaching students how to use a sewing machine and make a variety of different things from different materials. The classes focus on upcycling and custom pattern making, allowing students to create unique and well-considered projects. Students can walk away with finished products that they are proud of and can use in their everyday lives, such as a fanny pack or a jean purse. Lara's teaching style is relaxed and patient, allowing students to enjoy the creative process while also ensuring that they learn practical sewing skills. Overall, students have had a blast, felt like they were in a real fashion studio, and looked forward to spending more time at Make It Camp. Quotes: - "Lara's Make It class was the perfect balance between learning how to sew and making something that my daughter could wear and be proud of." - "Not only does my daughter wear the purse she made but has offered to sew torn pillowcases, and other things to keep up her sewing skills." - "It was great to see them being creative and making substantial things."
