Learn all about the many historically rich techniques using all natural dyes stuffs, where the come from, the social significance in ancient cultures, and how to forage for you own materials.
This class is a more intensive hands on version of "Dyeing with Nature" workshops which only runs 3 hours. In this special intensive we will meet once a week for a month, allowing for more techniques and skills to be demonstrated and more time to accomplish them! We get deeper and more hands on with the lengthy process, which you just can not dive into in just 3 hours. Like mordanting your own pieces and special tricks to prepare specialty natural dyes.
We learn about fibers and how to prepare them. Proper mordanting techniques for wool, silk and plant based fibers.
We focus on specialty dyes including but not limited to, cochineal, madder root, alkanet root, etc.
The last day we focus on the many ways to bundle dye and eco print, while finishing up the work from previous sessions.
All attendees must be vaccinated for two weeks, provide a negative test no less than 72 hours old, or take a rapid test the same day. Which conveniently you can grab at most Walgreens, CVS, Etc for only $25.
Each student will receive a form they will sign and let me know which they prefer. ONLY IF ALL students are vaccinated and say they are comfortable not wearing a mask will they not be required. Otherwise expect wearing a mask as the studio is indoors with little airflow, though it is a big space and allows for social distancing.
