What you'll learn in this printmaking class:

Learn how to produce one of a kind prints by creating projects using mixed media and printmaking. Stretch your imagination and wonder with inventive problem solving for stunning outcomes. Celebrate your individual artistic qualities, build your confidence with art making, and create works ready for exhibition. All levels are welcome.

Material List:

Please bring some materials to the first class that you wish to collage and what is necessary to attach them (for example, glue stick or paste). Martha will demonstrate different methods of attaching materials during the first class. Students will also learn the unique medium of monotype, through which an image is transferred to paper by way of a printing press or other means of pressure. Experimentation and personal expression will be encouraged in this class. 

Some basic materials you may wish to bring but are neither exclusive nor required: 

  • Paper (Arches cover, BFK suggested) 22x30 sheets - bigger or smaller ok 
  • Pencils (for printmaking and/or collage) 
  • Pens 
  • Acrylic gouache or watercolor paint (not essential but can be applied to prints or collage work) 
  • Water solvable inks If preferred 
  • Wire if so: Wire Cutter 
  • Collected textures that are flat or pressed such as foliage ribbon feathers string ET. Spring, lace, cloth, or found objects, etc. 
  • Photos, magazines, collected papers. Imagery for inspiration or to work on or to cut into shapes 
  • Collage materials for adding to prints if desired 
  • A PH adhesive archival glue, but other glues can be used 
  • Scissors 
  • Eraser 
  • Mat knife 
  • Paper towel (Viva) 
  • And/or anything else you may wish to bring or have in-progress 

The school will provide: 

  • Water soluble oil inks 
  • Large rollers 
  • Newsprin

Refund Policy

Class Cancellation: Classes and workshops are subject to cancellation if the minimum number of students required for a session are not met. Notification will be sent to registered students five days before the class is scheduled to begin.


To receive a refund, you must notify us in writing at [email protected] There is a $15 administrative fee for each refund.

  • In order to receive a full refund, students must withdraw from a class or workshop twelve days prior to the first day of classes.
  • Students withdrawing from a class and workshop during the week before the beginning of the quarter will receive a 75% refund as school credit if within twelve days of the start of the class. (A quarter begins on the first day of week one.)
  • No refunds will be made after the second class without medical documentation and no refunds will be made after a workshop begins.
  • Ceasing to attend class without notifying the school does not constitute withdrawal from class. 
  • Refunds are issued in the same form as payment. Refunds are issued within thirty days from request in the form of the same payment. Registration and service fees are non-refundable.

Transfers: All transfers must occur before the second meeting of class. Transfers from one course into another may incur additional fees, depending on the transfer. Transfer from one workshop to another is not permitted. There is a $15 administrative fee for each transfer.

Holidays & Canceled Lessons: We are closed for Thanksgiving, winter and spring break. If we must close due to weather, we will send out an email as well as update social media. The New York School of the Arts follows New York City Public Schools for weather-related closings. If classes are canceled, the instructor will work with the school office to schedule a make-up date. We do not refund/prorate for weather closure, and our make-up policy still applies.
