What you'll learn in this oil painting class:

This class will be in the form of group critiques in which all the students are invited to participate in the conversation. Students will paint on their own during the week and share photos of their work when we meet. Pastels are also considered as Painting should this be something someone wants to do. Although we will not be painting together hands on there will be plenty of technical advice when needed. Historical examples will be presented regularly throughout the course, often spontaneously when they might be suggested by a student’s work.

A lot of accredited art education revolves around the format of group critiques. It gives students the opportunity to focus on Visual thinking in greater depth both as it applies to their own work and to that of their peers. It has been my experience that I have learned through observing and commenting on the works of my peers as much as of my own. Painting is usually an isolated activity yet it also requires some sort of artistic community for it to grow.

Important: For the class to run smoothly please email photos of your work to the instructor each week ahead of time with the Subject Heading exactly as follows:

NYSA Painting Zoom Class, Mon PM

This allows me to find and share your images without having to look for your e mails among everything else that is in my Inbox for the week.

Question from [email protected]
Hi, I'm an absolute beginner in art and speak an intermediate level English. would you suggest this class in my case? Thanks.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! This class is great for beginners, but at that level, the teacher suggests students start from the beginning of a semester. The next full semester begins on January 28, 2019. Your intermediate English is sufficient to take this course. Hope this helps.
