This class was very informative. The instructor was knowledgeable about expresso machines, making expressos, and making coffee in general. The instructor was very patient and open to answering questions. I would recommend this class for people who doesn't know anything about using expresso machines and/or steaming milk.

Discover the Best Brewing Classes in Los Angeles

If you like drinks like traditional or boba teas, beer, and liquor, brewing is an excellent skill to learn in Los Angeles. It’s something you can use in multiple situations, whether you’re brewing for yourself and friends or beginning a new brewing career. Thankfully, you can find many brewing classes in Los Angeles to master this skill. There are both traditional in-person courses and online programs that provide unique benefits.

Why You Should Learn Brewing in Los Angeles

Brewing is a fun and engaging hobby that you can approach at whatever level you want. For example, you can brew just one keg of beer or liquor and drink it for months, or brew multiple kegs and sell or give them away. Even better, you can experiment with unique tastes, aromas, and textures, to produce a personalized brew that fits your preference.

Even better, you can make money with your new brewing skills. For example, you can start a career as a brewer and make about $54,425 annually, according to Salary.com. Even if you don’t change your job, you can still make a little extra cash brewing and selling delicious beer, liquor, or tea. Thankfully, brewing should fit easily into most full-time schedules.

In-Person Brewing Classes in Los Angeles

The City of Angels provides many in-person brewing classes that cover multiple subjects. These include things as diverse as mixing drinks, brewing coffee, or making kombucha. Each of these sessions covers several subjects to improve your skills. For example, you’ll learn about taste-testing your brews and adjusting your recipes to produce better results.

Finding a class that appeals to you requires checking various factors. These include course cost, duration, subject, location, and prerequisites. Thankfully, most of the brewing classes in Los Angeles require minimal experience and will help you prepare for more advanced training. The following lessons are some of the most popular and effective Los Angeles brewing classes

Barista Training for Beginners Part 1

Barista Training for Beginners Part 1 is a Los Angeles City College course of about 12 people that immerses you in drink preparation skills. You’ll learn how to brew coffee and serve espresso drinks, including commercial preparation with larger machines. Upon finishing, you can transition to the second course and begin a career as a barista.

During each class, you’ll work with a coffee consultant with more than 15 years of experience in barista training. They have worked with over 80 restaurants and coffee shops and can easily help you prepare you for this unique career. You’ll need an apron and comfortable shoes for this class, though all other materials come with the class.

Barista Training for Beginners Part 2

Barista Training for Beginners Part 2 takes over where the previous class left off and teaches you important advanced barista skills. For example, you’ll learn about creating latte art with milk, including how to add it properly to produce unique shapes. After completing both classes, you get a Basic Barista Certificate, which helps when finding jobs in Los Angeles.

That’s because these certificates help you stand out in a crowded field and make it easier to find jobs. However, you can also use these skills at home if you never work in a coffee shop. For instance, many people use latte art in their coffee every day after completing this class or teach others about these skills. In this way, this class provides unique and comprehensive benefits.

Coffee 101: Brew Lab

Coffee 101: Brew Lab focuses on teaching in-depth coffee brewing skills, including how to grind, process, and brew beans effectively. You’ll also practice effective serving techniques and other unique subjects that expand your knowledge base.

These topics include brewing methods like French Press, Chemex, and even Mr. Coffee grinding and brewing. By the time you’re done with this course, you’ll have a complete and useful understanding of coffee you can apply in a new job or in your day-to-day life.

Brewing Kombucha

Brewing Kombucha covers the skills and techniques necessary for fermenting safe and healthy kombucha drinks. You’ll learn about various tea and flavor combinations and practice the fermenting process in real time to get the hands-on education that you need.

Each student also gets an elaborate home-brew tasting with their fellow students to learn how well their kombucha turned out. When you’re done, you take your drinks home with you and can try making more later. Some course graduates transition to producing kombucha commercially.

Simple Beer Making With Roe

Simple Beer Making With Roe covers the full beer brewing process with Roe, a skilled brewer with many years of experience. You’ll learn about beer making kits, where you can purchase them, and how to use their ingredients to produce tasty beer.

You’ll also learn about taste testing and adjusting your beer’s flavor with various additives. This process includes adding different ingredients at various times while brewing and can give your beer a sharper or lighter taste, depending on your preference.

Coffee 101: Home Roasting + Brewing

Coffee 101: Home Roasting + Brewing teaches you how to make delicious coffee at home using complex bean preparation and grinding techniques. In this three-hour course, you’ll learn about proper bean selection, roasting, and grinding and how to produce tastes you enjoy.

This course uses hands-on training to immerse you in this skill, including practicing grinding and preparing your beans. You’ll also learn how to use inexpensive equipment to produce great brews. Then, these skills can be used in a commercial or residential brewing environment.

Virtual Brewing Classes

If you don’t have time to attend in-person LA brewing classes but still want to master this skill, online courses may work best for you. These sessions provide many unique benefits, including the ability to work wherever you want and a more diverse class offering. The only real downsides are less socialization time and the need to buy your own materials.

That said, many online brewing classes provide free course kits with your class cost. Furthermore, they often record each session, meaning you can attend if you’re busy when they meet. If online courses sound great to you, here are a few online brewing courses you can consider. They include in-depth mixology sessions and even tea-making lessons.

Cocktail & Mocktail

Cocktail & Mocktail teaches you how to mix two alcoholic cocktails and one alcohol-free mocktail. You’ll get a mixing kit that includes ingredients like spiced and coconut rums, a mason jar, a jigger, and Hawaiian props. During each session, you’ll learn how to make each drink and can use these skills to prepare even better mixes after you finish the course.

Plant Based Milks

Plant Based Milks is a great class option for those interested in brewing alternate milks at home. You’ll learn how to make milk from pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, cashews, and oats. Then, you learn different brewing techniques for each. This course works well for vegans or people who are interested in making more food at home.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea covers the history of British tea and introduces you to various tea brewing techniques. You’ll also learn to bake various tea-friendly snacks, like cookies or biscuits, and much more. While focused more on baking than brewing, you’ll also learn how to produce high-quality tea using various steeping methods.
