It was fun. The teacher made tamale making real easy. I could do it myself now. Just had to wait to get home to cook them. But it takes a long time to cook, so I guess the class was don3 the right way. Enjoyed it very much.

This class is a relatively inexpensive for a cooking class, but it's important to know its not of the quality of cooking classes of many of the classes offered by culinary businesses in the LA area. With that said, the teachers are super nice and I learned what I needed to learn. The class took only an hour, which I actually appreciated because I don't actually like 3 hour long classes. The class was held in a college classroom, not a kitchen, so if you are paranoid about sanitary concerns, this is not for you. You work with already prepared masa, so if you wanted to make your own masa, you will not learn that here. You will make two types of tamales, pork and cheese, but you are never actually cooking anything, just learning technique of filling. You will get to take home 12 tamales. If you just need a refresher on the filling technique, or if you are not a huge foodie but want to learn to make tamales, this is a good class.

The pros: the instructor was super sweet, informative and generous with products and materials, however, the cons for me out numbered the pros. We didn't learn how to make "authentic" tamales since we using prepared store bought masa. I wish there had been a chicken option for non-pork eating students and finally, had I known the class would be over in an hour and a half (at most), I could have had the opportunity to schedule my day better. Had I not taken advantage of Coursehorse's discounted rate, I would have wanted a partial refund.
